The Wanderers' Rest Animal Shelter is located on Sutherland Drive, off New York Route 5, just west of the Village of Canastota (see map below). Specifically, we are about 1.4 miles west of Peterboro Street and 1.2 miles west of Main Street. On the west, the Shelter is 4.5 miles from Chittenango and about 0.3 miles from Quality Hill; Wampsville is 3.7 miles to the east.

If coming to the Shelter via the Thruway, leave at the Canastota exit (Exit 34), pass through the tollgates and turn left (South) at the traffic light onto Peterboro Street (NY Route 13). Drive through a residential area, the main business district (two traffic lights), and then another residential area. Turn right off Peterboro onto Route 5 at the traffic light. Go through the traffic light at Main Street and continue west an additional 1.2 miles to Sutherland Drive.

There is a small white Wanderers' Rest sign at the end of Sutherland Drive, but the larger blue and white sign for Blue Ribbon Kennels, at the same location, is much more visible; look for these signs, turn onto Sutherland and proceed to the end. Blue Ribbon Kennels is on the left, and the Wanderers' Rest Shelter is on your right.
