Wanderers' Rest's primary goal is to find a permanent home for every adoptable animal placed in its care. Sometimes, however, an animal's needs exceed our ability to address them. For example, some animals come to the Shelter with short-term illnesses or injuries. In other cases the shelter environment produces undue stress in the animal. And as frequently happens, litters of kittens and puppies arrive far too young to be separated from their mothers, let alone be adopted. In these cases we rely on the selfless persons who are willing to provide the daily care and human contact that can only be found in a Foster Home. (Whenever possible, we attempt to adopt animals directly from the Foster Home, rather than have them returned to the Shelter for adoption.)
If you think you might be interested in providing foster care for one of our animals in need of extended help, you may want to look over our Foster Care Application Form, which will give you some idea of the kinds of families that we feel are appropriate to our needs. The Foster Care Agreement, mutually agreed upon when an animal is given over to Foster care, indicates the responsibilities of the fostering family and of Wanderers' Rest Humane Association.
If your circumstances permit, please consider becoming a member of our Foster Care family. Our needs are urgent and constant. Your job will not be easy, but the rewards for all concerned can be immense.
